General Carlo Alberto dalla Chiesa

Forty years have passed since the terrible murder of General Carlo Alberto dalla Chiesa, his wife Emanuela Setti Carraro and the agent Domenico Russo and none of us have ever forgotten the grandeur of his presence and his teachings.

For this anniversary, appointed by Generale Rosario Castello commander of the Carabinieri Legione Sicily, I wanted to create an artwork dedicated to the General dalla Chiesa that could evoke some characteristic features of his person. For this special work, I chose to use the tondo that recalls the sunflower, with its yellow-orange colors, a flower so loved by the General. The whole work refers to the sun, represented by the General who illuminates the city of Palermo and the whole of Italy with his life and his teachings. Inside the tondo I wanted to represent two elements in particular: the Cathedral of Palermo and the sea.

The Cathedral was a place very dear to the General dalla Chiesa, who could admire the beauty of its Arab-Norman decoration every day from the parade ground and also for the Madonnina that placed on the top of the large tower, turns its protective gaze on the city of Palermo, like Virgo Fidelis on all Carabinieri.

Finally the sea and its blue and green waves that recall the colors of hope. The hope that the heroic sacrifice of the General dalla Chiesa is a harbinger of a new season of justice, legality and beauty for our city - Palermo. My wish is that the younger generations may, by contemplating this work, draw reasons for a valid commitment in favor of the community, and in the constant inspiration of the values ​​that characterized the life and sacrifice of the Prefect Carlo Alberto dalla Chiesa.
